I’m working as a steward at the Stratford Literary Festival – one of my top picks for this year’s line-up was Tony Hawks (on 21 April 2013 at the Shakespeare Centre).
He talked about the process of turning his books Round Ireland with a Fridge and Playing the Moldovans at Tennis into films, including the challenges of working with ‘Hollywood’, doing special effects (turns out Hawks has a freaky ability to do keepy-uppies with a golf-ball and club) and how he was moved to set up a charity trust to fund The Hippocrates Centre for children with cerebral palsy.
